What is a Play Cafe?
Rise & Shine Play Café is a family-friendly café and indoor play space in Mistley, near Manningtree, Essex, created especially for babies, toddlers and young children aged 0–5.
A play café brings together two things parents often struggle to find in one place: a welcoming independent café serving great food and coffee, and a thoughtfully designed play space where little ones can explore and play.
At Rise & Shine, grown-ups can enjoy freshly prepared brunch, specialty coffee and a little moment to themselves, while children play nearby in a safe, engaging environment designed with their age and stage in mind.
It means less rushing, less compromise and more time to simply enjoy being out together.
Not every child enjoys big, busy and noisy play environments — and honestly, not every parent does either.
Rise & Shine is an intimate, low-capacity play café where families can enjoy a calmer and more relaxed experience. We deliberately keep our sessions small, creating a cosy environment that doesn't feel overwhelming for little ones.
Our space has been thoughtfully designed for children aged 0–5, with opportunities for imaginative play, movement, exploration and sensory discovery — without the chaos of a large indoor soft play centre.
We believe that smaller can be better. A more intimate space allows children to explore at their own pace, while parents and carers can feel comfortable, settled and able to enjoy their time together.
Whether your little one loves imaginative play, climbing and exploring, books and storytelling, or simply taking their time to observe the world around them, there is space for everyone here.

We understand that children experience the world in different ways, and that busy, loud or crowded environments can sometimes feel overwhelming. That's why creating a smaller, calmer and more relaxed play environment is such an important part of what we do.
We warmly welcome children with all sensory needs and developmental differences. There is no expectation for children to play in a particular way, join in with everything or behave like anyone else.
Children are free to explore, imagine, observe and play at their own pace.
Our aim is simple: to create a welcoming space where every family feels comfortable and included, and where children can simply be themselves.

At Rise & Shine, we believe parents shouldn't have to compromise on good food and great coffee just because they're out with little ones.
Our all-day brunch menu is freshly prepared using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. From perfectly cooked eggs and creamy avocado to our much-loved burrata toast and our signature Sunrise Stack of fluffy buttermilk pancakes, our menu has been created to offer something a little more special.
We serve specialty coffee alongside wholesome family favourites, delicious brunch dishes and food for little ones too.
